Electronic health record analysis and longitudinal data analysis to understand the risk factors in dementia

Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust
Date of Ethical Approval: January 2026
Project Identifier: SDE_LDN_PROJ_230

Project Overview

Comorbidities and changes in the health and well-being of people who are at risk of developing dementia and exploring longitudinal electronic health care records at the level of the UK population can help us understand how these conditions relate to one another and interconnect, and what other lifestyle or historical factors might play a part.

Public Benefit Statement

To develop models and tools that can be used as diagnostic aids, prognostic assistants, and to identify the risk of dementia and provide means to understand the changes experienced by individuals with dementia. Personalised prognosis over the course of dementia is something that can be unique to each individual and is not something that is currently offered in clinical care. Even in the absence of disease-modifying treatment, early risk identification and more personalised prognosis have positive implications for managing comorbidities, mitigating safety risks, preventing complications, and supporting patients and their caregivers in making plans for the future, allowing individuals with dementia to maintain their independence for longerand improving quality of life for them and their carers.
