More specialist Trusts share patient information via London Care Record

Two more major London specialist Trusts have started securely sharing patient records across the Capital and some neighbouring areas through the London Care Record, helping to further support effective and joined-up care (17 December 2025).

Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children NHS Foundation Trust (GOSH) and the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital NHS Trust (RNOH) are both now sharing information into the London Care Record, which is a single and secure view of a person’s health and care information.

This is helping to ensure that health and care staff who are treating the patient in other settings have the information they need at the point of care to inform their clinical decision making. It also means that patients or their carers do not need to repeat their care history to the staff treating them.

The London Care Record includes details about any conditions which a person has, their test results, medicines, allergies, plans for their care and other useful information such as hospital discharge summaries.

It is currently used around two and a half million times a month by well over 100,000 health and care staff across London and some neighbouring areas, including Hertfordshire, Oxford and Milton Keynes. Only staff involved in a person’s care are allowed to access the information.

Securely sharing information is important because both GOSH and RNOH provide specialist care to patients from across London, its neighbouring areas and beyond:

  • GOSH is an international centre of excellence in child healthcare offering over 60 different clinical specialities.
  • RNOH is the largest orthopaedic hospital in the UK and provides a comprehensive range of neuro-musculoskeletal healthcare.

A recent independent study showed that the London Care Record saves health and care staff time up to a value of £4.6 million each month – helping them provide safe, effective and joined-up care more quickly.

OneLondon is working with partners to share more data across the Capital via the London Care Record so it becomes an even richer tool for frontline staff for the benefit of more patients.

Ode Omohwo, Clinical Digital Lead at NHS North Central London ICB, said:

“Here at NHS North Central London ICB we are committed to playing our part to realise the full potential of the London Care Record so even more people benefit from the joined-up care it supports. It is great that GOSH and RNOH patient information is now being securely shared across the Capital via the London Care Record. This means health and care staff from other organisations – such as GPs or ambulance teams – who are treating these patients can now access information about the care provided by staff at these Trusts, all at the click of a button. Thank you to the teams at GOSH, RNOH, and everyone else involved in making this happen.”

Nicola Dreher, London Care Record Associate Director, said:

“By securely sharing patient data through the London Care Record both GOSH and RNOH are helping to ensure frontline staff using this system across the Capital and other areas have the information they need at the point of care to inform their clinical decisions.  Most London Trusts are now sharing patient information across London in this way and we are working with other care providers to do the same to help to make the London Care Record an even richer tool for the benefit of patients across the Capital and beyond.”
