More care homes encouraged to connect to the London Care Record

A new campaign has been launched to encourage more care homes in the Capital to use the London Care Record to support their staff to provide residents with the best possible care (16 June 2026).

The London Care Record is an up-to-date and secure digital record of a person’s health and care information over time and across different parts of the NHS and social care services.

It includes details about any conditions a person has, their test results, medicines, allergies, plans for their care and other useful information such as hospital discharge summaries.

This gives health and care staff the joined-up information they need to take informed decisions and provide the best possible joined-up care more quickly.

Around 130,000 frontline staff use the system each month. Only staff involved in a person’s care are allowed to access the information.

More than 300 care homes are now connected to the London Care Record, with staff reporting how it supports them to provide safer, faster and more joined-up care for their residents while also saving them valuable time.

A new series of short videos features care home staff sharing their experiences and how the London Care Record is supporting day-to-day care delivery.

Dan Heller, London Health and Care in the Community Team, said:

“It’s fantastic to hear directly from care home staff about the impact the London Care Record is having. These stories show how access to timely information supports better care and saves valuable time. We hope more care homes will be encouraged to get in touch about connecting to the London Care Record so more people benefit from the joined-up care it supports.”

Roz Hawtin, Clinical Lead at St Mary’s Convent Nursing Home, said:

“We think the London Care Record is fabulous. It saves us an enormous amount of time. We use it all the time and it also saves the external agencies time. For example, the GP, palliative care nurses, community nurses, OTs, everybody. It’s fantastic that we can actually access hospital discharge letters on the London Care Record, as they don’t often come back with the resident.”

Ethel Agbo, Team Lead at Priscilla Wakefield Nursing Home, said:

“I recommend London Care Record to all the care homes because it’s the safest and easiest way to get information about residents like past histories and communication between other professionals. It has actually given me more confidence in my role because whenever you get information from the system you know where you’re getting your information from.”

Andreea Graure, Registered Nurse at Acton Care Centre, said:

“The London Care Record is definitely useful in an urgent situation. It enables me to make quick and safe decisions regarding the care of our residents. We can access critical information like DNAR status, urgent care plan, allergies, and this enables us to make a quick and safe decision without having to chase different services.”

Bibek Bisural, Team Lead at Priscilla Wakefield Nursing Home, said:

“One of the main advantages of London Care Record is the communication between numerous stakeholders so everybody can have access of our resident’s information, but it is secure as well. If my resident is having any future appointments I can quickly skim through the London Care Record. I can see the date of the appointment and I can book their transport in advance.”

Jaja Payopilin, Care Service Manager at Acton Care Centre, said:

“The London Care Record is vital to all of our admission. It provides us information that may not be present during our pre-admission assessment, so we can help and assist in our care planning for our residents.”
