First council sharing care information across Capital via London Care Record

The London Borough of Bexley has become the first council to securely share its adult social care information across the Capital through the London Care Record, supporting more joined-up care for its residents (21 November 2024).

The London Care Record is a single and secure view of a person’s health and care information. It includes details about any conditions which a person has, their test results, medicines, allergies, plans for their care and other useful information such as hospital discharge summaries.

The adult social care information now being shared by the London Borough of Bexley includes contact details for a person’s social worker, other people involved in their care and other important information such as any disabilities they may have.

This means that health and care staff who are treating the Bexley resident in other parts of London have an even wider range of information about them available at the point of care. This helps to inform their clinical decision making and also means people do not need to repeat their care history or remember contact details for people who look after them.

The London Care Record is currently viewed over two million times a month by over 100,000 health and care staff. Only staff involved in a person’s care are allowed to access the information.

This initiative is a collaboration between OneLondon, South East London Integrated Care System and the London Borough of Bexley as well as technology providers System C and Oracle Cerner.

Several other councils in London use the same technology and it is hoped that they will follow Bexley and also share adult social care data through the London Care Record. This will help make it an even richer tool for frontline staff and support better and more joined-up care for even more Londoners.

Councillor Melvin Seymour, Cabinet Member for Adults’ Services & Health, said:

“We want to make sure our residents get the best care possible. Sometimes, this care might be provided in other parts of London outside our Borough. To do this well, it is important that the professionals helping them can access the right information at the right time and place. We are proud that the London Borough of Bexley is leading the way in using technology to share social care information across London securely. By taking the lead, we hope to inspire others and create better, more connected care for everyone”.

Amrik Johal, Managing Director Social Care & Education at System C, said:

“Our mission is to support our local authority customers in providing the best possible care for the public. That’s why we are delighted to be part of a pioneering project to share adult social care information across London for the first time through the London Care Record. Many councils are already using our Liquidlogic Adult Social Care Case Management solution and we are looking forward to supporting more of them share information across the Capital for the benefit of their residents.”

Stephen East, System Data Architect at South East London Integrated Care System, said:

“Here at South East London ICS we are committed to playing our part to realise the full potential of the London Care Record so even more people benefit from the joined-up care it supports. It is great to be part of this pioneering project and we are proud that it’s a south east London council that is the first to share information across the Capital. This has the potential to make such a positive difference and we look forward to supporting other councils in our area to do the same.”
